Kangana was born on 20 March 1987 in a place called Bhambla in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Her father is a businessman and mother is a school teacher. She has one elder sister Rangooli and a younger brother Akshit. Her grandfather was an IAS officer.
Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion, dubbed as a realistic take on India’s fashion industry that will probe the professional hazards, the lifestyle of the models and designers and starkly present the grey areas of this all-glam industry on celluloid, is nearing completion and the director seems to already have an action plan to keep his film and its cast in the news. The recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week saw the svelte Kangana Ranaut (who plays a model in Madhur’s film) showstopping for Narendra Kumar (mind you —he’s designing outfits for the film). Kangana sashayed down the runway in a kind theatrical catwalk and posed in front of the dancing flashbulbs while the cast and crew of Fashion — Madhur, set designer Nitin Desai, model Mugdha Godse (who plays a foul mouthed model in the film) — cheered her on from the front row. We missed Piggy Chops (Priyanka Chopra, you know it na?) though! Action on the ramp ended, Madhur praised Kangana for her catwalk and Narendra Kumar for his fall winter line. Kangana also managed to grab some headlines. Most people talked about the presence of the crew of Fashion in the show. Chapter closed. However, we sensed a little bit of intelligent promotional ploy for the film in the backdrop of fashion and decided to quiz Madhur whether it was really a subtle tactic to be in news?“No, no nothing like that,” said Madhur denying any ploy at work. The film is in its last schedule of shooting and Madhur says that he still has time to enter into the PR exercise. He says it’s too early.“The film is 70 per cent ready and work is on to complete the remaining portion. It is little early for all this. Since Narendra Kumar was our designer, we were simply there to cheer for him and support him. Moreover, Kangana was walking the ramp for him. So, it was like a family affair. It didn’t feel like I was sitting at a fashion week, I was feeling like I was on my set and shooting. The film releases later this year — you will know when promotions begin.” And what did he think about Kangana’s catwalk?“She was brilliant. I thought she was very much at ease. The way she walked down and posed was too good. She is doing a great job in the film and you’ll see it,” Madhur said with a shrug. Intentional or not, the decision to support the designer friend surely hit bulls-eye for Madhur as it garnered a lot of publicity not only for him but also for the film and the cast. We’ll keep a close eye on such similar family affairs before the release of his glossy big budget film.
