Kangana was born on 20 March 1987 in a place called Bhambla in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Her father is a businessman and mother is a school teacher. She has one elder sister Rangooli and a younger brother Akshit. Her grandfather was an IAS officer.
Kangana spent her childhood in Dehra Dun and studied in DAV's High School where she actively participated in many debates, Elocutions, and was a basket-ball player. After completing her schooling, she joined Science College in Simla and also enrolled herself in Elite School of Modeling. She has passion for acting, so she even tried some theater acting in Delhi and was a member of the Smita Theater Group under Arvind Gaur. Besides acting, she is also a trained Kathak dancer, and is learning to sing from Amitabh Chakraborty.
Career in Movie
As she moved to Mumbai to make big names in films, she struggled to get satisfying projects. Success does not come easy and Kangana experienced it during her initial efforts. Eventually in September, 2005 she was spotted drinking coffee in a Coffee shop in Mumbai by Anurag Basu, and signed her for the lead role in movie Gangster. The movie was released in 2006, and it was critically and commercially successful. Her role gathered more accolade and then she was successful to bag more roles in Bollywood as well as in Kollywood.
Untill now, she has done total of five movies, including 'Dhaam Dhoom' in Tamil. She ahs been offered a role in US based film entitled Between the Night and the Moon (2009). It is a romantic film lightly based on Romeo and Juliet. Shooting for this movie is set to take place in Kashmir, and Miami, Florida.
